Advent faith and advancing culture

Have you ever been fascinated by technology? Or by high quality engineering? By good music? By city architecture? Probably many of us have. Since we were created in God’s image and since God as Creator and Artist is the Origin of all technology, engineering, music, architecture and many such things more, we should not be surprised that humans also have received qualities to invent and design marvellous things. Someone may wonder why God has not limited the giving of these marvellous gifts to believers. That is not a new question. Upcoming Sunday, the first Sunday of the Advent season, we read on in Genesis (4:17-24), where we see how it went on with Cain and his family. God still lavished grace on them, though not saving grace. We must learn to distinguish between common grace and saving grace. When we are impressed by human culture and technology, we must not be captured by this world. We may and must fulfil our role in this world. But what the world really needs and what we ourselves need and must keep is Advent faith. Advent faith is saving faith in Jesus the Messiah who came to save by his death and resurrection and who will come to judge the world. You are so welcome to join this service and to learn more.
