Advent faith in action

In the Advent season we are reminded of how God’s people have waited for long until the Saviour was born. We are no longer waiting for Christ’s birth – he was born in Bethlehem some two thousand years ago. But we also are waiting – for his second coming. Two questions are very important then. First, why should we wait at all? Why not eat, drink, have happy lives and forget about the promise of his coming? Well, he promised to come to judge the living and the dead. Throughout the Bible we see that the Lord has always done what he promised. So we would better prepare for his second coming. We are all going to see him. We are going to stand before his judgement seat. However, when we have embraced Jesus as Saviour and Lord, his coming for us will mean the coming of the Bridegroom, the start of `the great wedding feast’ and the coming of new heavens and a new earth – it is something to really be looking forward to. The second question that is important, is how should we wait? Just wait and see? Upcoming Sunday we read on in Genesis. We will see that those who still believed in the time that Cain’s family would grow, would not just wait and see. They began `to call upon the name of the Lord’ (Genesis 4:26). They put their advent faith in action. And so may we. You are so welcome to come to this service and to learn more.

All-age service
Upcoming Sunday the service will be an all-age service. This means that the children will also stay in the service. And that the pastor will try to preach in an understandable way, so that both children and adults may be edified. To this end the sermon will be translated in Dutch. If you have children, you can help them by preparing them at home. You may take pencils with you, so that they can fill in the worksheet. And you may encourage them to learn and have a conversation afterward to see what they understood and received. Do not underestimate how the Lord can touch children’s hearts in preaching! As a parent, avoid a negative attitude or prejudice (as though listening to preaching might be boring or too difficult for children), but encourage them and pray for them. We may look forward to the Lord blessing us all in the service, including the children.
