If someone asks you: what did Jesus come for? – you probably know the answer. He came to `save his people from their sins’ – says Matthew, at the beginning of his Gospel. But without an impression of how serious sin is, we might easily underappreciate that message. At the start of Genesis, with a superficial look, one might wonder what the problem was with eating of the forbidden fruit. Although when we studied that passage, we already saw that much more was ongoing. Upcoming Sunday we read how the great flood came, in which all sinners died. What an awesome judgement… All died? No, Noah was saved and his family and the animals. In that despised ark covered with pitch, they were carried high above everything, above all who had hated and despised them, even above the mountains – and so they were saved. Celebration of the Lord’s Supper
This Sunday, Lord willing, we celebrate the Lord’s Supper. With bread and with wine, we remember the Lord’s saving work for us, with the purpose to be strengthened and comforted in our faith. If you are a professing believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, you are so welcome to partake. If you are not yet a professing believer, have not yet been baptised, we gently ask you not yet to partake of the bread and the wine.
