In the beginning of the Bible we read how the first peace was broken. The serpent came with falsehood to Eve. He gossiped and slandered about God. Adam failed to be angry with the serpent in order to maintain their peace with God. The first peace was broken. And as you read in the Bible the history of salvation, you soon learn how deep the breach was, how grave the consequences and how much it cost to restore peace – it cost God the life of his own Son on the cross.

As the gift of grace in Christ consists of precious peace with God and peace with our brothers and sisters in Christ’s body, we are to be eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. But how do you do that, when somebody really offended you? Upcoming Sunday we read on in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians (Ephesians 4:25-31) and we will see how these words are from the Holy Spirit to perfectly equip us to maintain peace.
