By grace, Noah in his time was a believer. Probably through the preaching of his fathers – like Lamech, Methuselah and Enoch – it had been revealed to him how sinful and corrupt his own heart was. But also, that God had promised a Saviour to Eve and her offspring. And that by faith in this Saviour, Noah would be saved. Noah, in his faith in the Saviour and in his obedience of faith to God was increasingly alone. What do you need, in such a time? Noah needed the Word of God. And so do we! The preaching of the Word reminds us of God’s covenant. It makes us aware how urgent it is to believe. But also how precious the Gospel is. And how practical.
