The Rest of Jesus | Matthew 11:28-30

How are you doing? How have you answered this question recently?  Maybe with a quick “OK” or “Het gaat goed” where we essentially avoid the question?  If we think back, I suspect that many of us have answered with either: “Tired”, “Busy” or “Stressed” at some point in the last couple of months.  This is life in the 21st century in the middle of a pandemic, right?  Relentless.  We have been formed by our culture to live 24/7 lifestyles where being busy and available has become not only a badge of honour and respect, but a moral expectation.  Let’s face it, deep down most of us do not want to live this way.  We want another way to live.  The good news is that Jesus invites us into a new way of life, a new lifestyle where he promises not only to give us this rest we crave, but to be our rest.

Lesson Title: The King Walks on WaterText: Mark 6:30-44Big Idea: Jesus walks on water to help the struggling disciples, but they do not recognise him because their hearts are hardened.Lesson Aim: to teach that our hearts need to be changed before we can see that Jesus is God.Here is a video (in Dutch) explaining the story. The kids’ song is He’s the King of Kings (Who Is This Man?).

The memory verse for this Mark series is:

“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah!” Mark 8:29 [NIV]
