Mastering the Rear View Mirror

Anyone who hopes to pass the Dutch driving exam and receive a license to drive must become a “master of the rear view mirror.”

It is not easy.

While constantly moving forward to a destination, the student driver must regularly peer into the rear view mirror to see what is behind. The examiner is ever watchful to see whether this is accomplished according to standards. I often thought it would have been easier to have been born with eyes on the back of my head.

But eventually you master the mirror and it becomes second nature.

In a way, in our Bible reading, we need to become masters of the rear view mirror, seeing clearly what God has promised in the past that we may confidently see forward to a coming promised destination in the future.

This Sunday we will hone our Bible rear view mirror skills. Our text will be Luke 2:21-40.

The Lord is Gracious!
