There are things that speak without words. We all know that. There is the language of a simple gesture, a smile or of a furrowed brow. There is communication beyond words. The Bible tells us for instance that the heavens declare the glory of God without speech or words (Psalm 19). Not only is there a communication without words towards us. There is also a communication without words towards God. When Cain had killed Abel, his brother and seemed to have put his brother to silence forever, God told Cain that `the voice of your brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground’. Upcoming Sunday, we continue to read in Genesis 4. We will learn what the blood of Abel was communicating to God. But we will also learn how the blood of Christ `speaks a better word than the blood of Abel’ (Hebrews 12:24). And though this speechless speaking is first and foremost towards God, we will learn that we who have come to believe in Christ, may benefit a lot from that. Celebration of the Lord’s Supper
Upcoming Sunday, Lord willing, we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper. We do this in obedience to the Lord’s command, to exercise and strengthen our faith in his sacrifice for us – his broken body for us, his blood that was shed for us, the blood of the new covenant for the forgiveness of sins. In eating and drinking we exercise communion with our Lord and with each other as beloved brothers and sisters in the fellowship. It is a holy meal, which means that we do not invite everyone to partake, but only those who have acknowledged their own sinfulness and have turned to Jesus in repentance for the forgiveness of their sins. All members in good standing of our church are welcome to partake. Also, if you have been baptised and have professed your faith and are a member in good standing of another Bible believing church you are so welcome to join. If you have not yet professed your faith and not yet been baptised and would like to make steps to prepare for that, do not hesitate to let me (pastor@icfdelft.nl) or one of the elders know about this. Still, you are very welcome to come the service and to be there, also when the Lord’s Supper is administered and we believe that it can be a testimony and a blessing for everyone, even also for those who do not yet partake.
