THE FRAME OF PENTECOST

Recently we celebrated Pentecost. As we learnt, the coming and outpouring of the Spirit, is a historical fact – like the birth of Christ. We also learnt that the coming of the Spirit has a focus. All the `families of the earth’ – all peoples, tongues and nations must hear the good news about Jesus. Upcoming Sunday we look at the frame of Pentecost. What is the big picture wherein this work of the Spirit of God gets its meaning? We shall see that the Bible provides this big picture, especially when we look at the prophecy of Joel. Treasure Seekers

This Sunday the children return to the Old Testament, to see what happened next after the book of Genesis.  In Exodus, God is at the centre of an action-packed story and he does everything needed to rescue his people and gather them to himself.

The book of Genesis concludes with Jacob’s twelve sons, including Joseph, settled as guests in Egypt. Goshen, the land they were given by the king of Egypt, was a good and fertile land (Genesis 47:5-6). God blessed them with a great increase in numbers. Read more… Lesson Title      God Grows His People Text                      Exodus 1:1 – 2:10 Big Idea              Pharaoh tries to stop God’s people from growing too numerous, but God protects them and raises up a rescuer for them. Teaching Aim   To show that God’s promise to grow his people cannot be stopped. He is powerful to protect and has raised up a rescuer for us.
