In the Netherlands, a favourite way to proceed in politics when two rivalling parties have opposite standpoints, is what we call the `polder-model’. It means that the party leaders will sit together as long as is needed to get them somewhere on the same page. In a small country with many stubborn people that is a proven effective way to proceed. Usually both have to give in and to compromise a bit, in order to achieve some of their goals. There is though a situation wherein the `polder-model’ cannot and should not be applied. In a marriage, if there is another lover, that cannot and should not be tolerated. The consequences of letting go such a thing  for marriage are devastating. Likewise, if you are in covenant with Christ as your Saviour and King, you cannot at the same time continue to think, plan and act according to the rationale of an ungodly world that does not grant Christ his position, but wants that position for itself. Even by wishing to do so, we offend our Bridegroom Saviour. Upcoming Sunday we read further in James’ letter (4:4-5:6) and learn more about this – with the aim that our love for him may be deepened and renewed.

Celebration of the Lord’s Supper
Upcoming Sunday, Lord willing, we will also celebrate the Lord’s Supper. We have a passionate Saviour. He wants our hearts. He wants communion with our souls. The purpose of the celebration of the Lord’s Supper is that we have such communion – not just mechanically, by just eating the bread and drinking the wine, but by exercising faith while we eat and drink, by lifting up our hearts in heaven, where Christ is, seated at God’s right hand. If you are a professing and baptised believer in Jesus Christ, member of ICF or if, from another Bible believing church, in good standing with your own church, you are welcome to partake. If that is not, or not yet the case, we gently ask you – because it is a holy communion, it is not for everyone – not yet to partake; also the children we ask not yet to partake – until they have made their profession of faith.
