The Gospel is the powerful message of God’s grace in Jesus Christ for sinners who repent and believe. The Gospel is full of power. Yet, to pass this Gospel on faithfully requires boldness. Think of Peter on the day of Pentecost. A faithful proclamation of the Gospel required that Peter would honestly say to his audience on that day that they had recently crucified the Messiah and that they needed to repent. What does a faithful proclamation of the Gospel require today? Always there has been the temptation to make the Gospel more human-friendly and less offending, to avoid trouble. But there is another way, a better way. God sent the Spirit, that we might be able to endure the trouble and be faithful in handing over the Gospel’s power.
