The Transforming Power of the Gospel

1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

When the apostle Paul and his fellow labourers in the Gospel first entered the city of Thessalonica, they entered a city in which there was no church. No Gospel. No knowledge of Jesus. No salvation from sin and from the judgment to come. No hope. But, when Paul proclaimed God’s word to the Thessalonians about the good news of Jesus, the Holy Spirit worked powerfully in the hearts of many and convicted them of the truth, wonder, and beauty of the Gospel, and so won for God a redeemed people in that city. With the new lives which  they had found in Christ, and anchored in the firm hope of his coming, they now in turn testified of his wondrous grace to others in their community. God has not changed, and his word is still active and powerfully working to bringing people to salvation, new life, and hope in him.
