Born into a new family

Everybody belongs to a family. We enter our family by birth and when we grow up we gradually discover the characteristics of our family members. They are important for us and through them, we also learn to know ourselves.

There are also people who never got to know their parents or their family. They are adopted by another family or educated in a children’s home. That is not easy. It is a great help when loving people are around.

Jesus said that unless we are born again we cannot enter the Kingdom of God. What He meant is a new birth, entering a new loving family, the family of God. How is this possible? In the book of Acts we come across an instructive story of an African eunuch who came to faith in Jesus, was converted and baptized (The book of Acts, chapter 8).

By birth, we enter our earthly family. By rebirth, we may enter a new and lasting family. And the sign of that entrance is baptism.
