Created for community, July 22

Created for community

During this summer we focus on one of the Psalms in every church service of ICF-Delft. Psalms are beautiful hymns, reflecting on heights and depths of life and often they express the longing for God. This Sunday we read Psalm 133 that starts with the words: ‘How good and pleasant is it when brothers dwell in unity’.

This psalm is about community and we all know how essential it is. It is nearly impossible to grow, develop and to express ourselves without taking part in a community.  As soon as we confess Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we belong to a new community (whether we like it or not!). Not just an interesting club or a temporary fellowship, but a family of brothers and sisters given to one another and living with one another.

Psalm 133 refers to the blessing connected with such a community. It is new and fresh and contains the promise of life. It is joyful but not always easy to belong to it!

Learn more about this community, how to contribute to it and how to benefit from it, in the service of ICF-Delft on 22 July, 12 hrs 15 in the Génestetchurch, Oude Delft 102.

Amazingly different! Service on Jan. 7 with Potluck Lunch

Amazingly different!

What characterizes a disciple of Jesus? It is very strange to hear something like this: to be poor in spirit, to mourn, to be meek, or to be persecuted. Indeed completely contrary to core values in our society focusing intellectual achievements, self-development and assertiveness!

Why did Jesus describe his disciples like this? Do we need this kind of people in the church and in our society? The answer may sound astonishing again: more than ever! Hear more about the ‘why’ and about Jesus’ invitation to radical discipleship in the service of ICF Delft on 7 January 2018! This will be the first service in our new series on the ‘Sermon on the Mount’. Join us in the following weeks and discover with us what Jesus calls his disciples to do!

ICF Delft Potluck Lunch

After the service we will have a Potluck lunch at the Génestet church Oude Delft 102.
This will work like usual: Everyone brings some food to church, either savoury or sweet, enough for 8-10 people. There are limited warming options in the kitchen (a small microwave, and electric plates).  You could bring, homemade or shop-bought (for example savoury dish, vegetables, rice, bread, cheese, snacks, dessert, biscuits, tart, fresh fruit or vla). Everything is welcome!

Also feel free to invite friends too. If you have non-Christian friends who aren’t ready to attend a church service but who may like to meet some Christians they are welcome to join us after the service. We are looking forward to meet everyone!

Also there will be a Bible story for the children and pastor Niek Tramper will preach on the theme: ‘The King is there – are you ready to welcome him?’ focusing on the Gospel of the birth of the Lord Jesus in Luke 2 verses 1-7.
After the service you are welcome for fellowship, coffee, tea and sweets in the annex room. And at 14:30 a special potluck Christmas fellowship lunch will start.

On Sunday, 31st of December, the last day of the year, we will also have a church service at 12:15pm.  Pastor Niek Tramper will then preach on the theme (from the 2nd letter of Peter): ‘Leaving the old, entering the new’.

IFES national training day ‘Do it!’

IFES national training day ‘Do it!’ – this Saturday, Dec. 9

Are you about to return to your home country within due time? Then this day is highly recommended for YOU!

Main speaker is Rev. Niek Tramper who has many years of experience working with international students and academics in Delft. The theme of this day will be: “Think home – helping students to prepare to return to their home culture”.

Recently he did research on the re-entry of Chinese students after their study. Those lessons will help us to understand how we can help students prepare for returning home because they will definitely face some big challenges!

Former international student, now OMF missionary Anna Bin Yang will share her testimony and lessons learned. In the afternoon we will have workshops to help apply the knowledge to our own contexts. The day is free of charge, lunch is included. It is a great place to connect, learn from each other and encourage each other.

When and where?  December 9th from 10.30 till 17.00 h in Utrecht,  Singelkerk Wittevrouwensingel 28, 3581, GC Utrecht

Going Home

Go back to your first exitement about Jesus. What‘s left of it? What do you need to feel alive again, to keep alive the hope of faith in Jesus? Probably the same as two close friends of Jesus, travelling to their hometown Emmaus on the first day of Easter:  the reassurance that Jesus really is alive! Two friends of Jesus were on their way home to a town called Emmaus. They were sad and confused because of what happened with Jesus in Jerusalem. Contrary to their expectations, he was killed. And worse: his body disappeared from the tomb. This famous Easter Story is about hope, dreams and expectations. And about disappointments in life. Welcome on Sunday in our church, where we continue to celebrate Easter!
